Critical Race Theory has been in the news a lot lately. It is not a framework we use in our work in the Riverview School District.
The Riverview School District has been doing work on diversity, equity and inclusion in one way or another for more than two decades. Our working definition of equity is, “Equity means making sure every student has the support they need to be successful.”
Different than many other school districts and organizations who are just getting started with consistent work around diversity, equity and inclusion, Riverview began a more aligned commitment to this work five years ago. We shared our five year plan with staff, as well as the community at large at that time, and frequently since then. For us, it is about identifying and removing barriers to student success. We strive to ensure that each one of our students meets our identified standards and is prepared for the world they are entering according to our district Outcomes and Indicators.
